Composting Toilets

These toilets eliminate the use of water. Toilet waste empties into the composting tank below. Oxygen-using soil organisms rapidly break down the substances that are readily degradable. Over time, natural biological decomposition converts human waste into a small amount of safe, stabilized material called "compost." Disease causing organisms die because conditions are not favorable to their growth. This compost can then be used as fertilizer for landscaping around the campus.
