The floors in each classroom at IslandWood are covered with different kinds of sustainable materials. The technology lab has cork floors made from the bark of cork oak trees, which can be harvested without killing the trees. The sustainability classroom has floors made from bamboo - a grass that grows to harvestable size in three years. The floors in the two life science classrooms are made from old tires and sneakers. Finally, the wet lab is plain cement, using no resources to cover it at all - while providing a use for fly-ash, to boot.
