Midden- a mound or small pile of seeds, bones, or leaves gathered by a rodent.

Imagine a Douglas Squirrel sitting at the base of a Douglas Fir tree, nibbling on a cone. The squirrel pulls apart the cone to extract its seeds, leaving behind a pile of discarded biotic material.  Douglas Squirrels often use the same place for peeling cones, leaving behind middens of accumulated cone scales.
